SECOND “YEAR OF THE SOUTH” SURVEY ISSUED BY THE SOUTHERN NATIONAL CONGRESS COMMITTEEMARION, VA; May 31, 2007. The Southern National Congress Committee announced today the issuance of the second of its “Year of the South” surveys to be conducted by the SNC Committee via its website, www.southernnationalcongress.org.Terry Compton, SNC Committee Director of Communications, explained, “The Year of the South Survey is our effort to inform ourselves fully about Southern attitudes, concerns, and grievances, so that the future Congress can be effective as an alternative, legitimate voice for the South and our people. With that goal in mind, we plan to conduct a short survey (only six questions per survey) periodically on the SNC Website. The first one was designed to reveal how we Southerners feel about ourselves and our region, and the results are posted. This second survey deals with an issue of deep concern to Americans of all regions, but to us Southerners in particular, and that is the issue of massive Third World immigration.” Thomas Moore, Chairman of the Southern National Congress Committee, observed, “The U.S. Senate is taking up the so-called immigration reform bill that certain Senators drafted behind closed doors and without benefit of hearings or an otherwise open process. No one should be surprised at the monstrosity produced, or that once again Southerners have been betrayed by leaders of both national parties. The second SNC survey on immigration – I would actually call it an invasion – is timely, if nothing else. But we in the SNC Committee know what we think about it. We want to know what our fellow Southerners think. Respondents to the first survey indicated overwhelmingly they believe the South has a unique identity and valuable culture that are worthy of being preserved. Submerging that identity and culture in a tidal wave of Third World immigration is the surest way I know to destroy them, so it will be interesting to see if the responses to the second survey are consistent with the first.” The SNC website includes an interactive response mechanism for respondents to register their views. Future surveys will assess Southern attitudes on the economy and livelihood issues, national security, our eroding liberty, education, culture and the arts. Respondents are asked to say if they agree, disagree, or are not sure.
