Stephen Dill Lee Institute - February 3The Tennessee Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will host a meeting of the S.D. Lee Institute in Paris, TN.
Saturday, February 3, 2007
at the Paris Convention Center (1510 E. Wood Street)
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Institute fee will be $5.00 per person.
All proceeds to benefit the Nathan Bedford Forrest Tuition
Scholarship Fund
at the Cottage Grove School in Henry County.
The Stephen Dill Lee Institute was established by the Sons of
Confederate Veterans (SCV) in 2005 as a forum for historical
scholarship in defense of the cause for which the Confederate
Soldier fought.
The Lee Institute is named for the Southern general who
served as a college president and founder of the United
Confederate Veterans in the years prior to his death in 1908.
Appropriately, the Institute serves as an educational and
recruiting outreach to connect the men and women of our day with
the Confederate patriotic societies.
The Institute also serves to present the public with the
reasons why our people participating in the greatest watershed
event of American History, the citizens of the late Southern
nation, holds a special place of honor in our hearts.
The Institute presentations in Paris will include:
Thomas Fleming, PhD., of
Rockford, Illinois - founding editor of Southern
Partisan, current editor of Chronicles: The Magazine of
American Culture and Chairman, Advisory Board for the
Cottage Grove School, speaking on "The Education
of an Officer and a Gentleman in the Old South."
Michael R. Bradley, P D., of Tullahoma - Commander of the
Tennessee Division and Instructor of American History,
Motlow State (retired), speaking on "The Yankee
Occupation of Middle
Tennessee."
Rick Revel of Paris - Founder, Heritage Keepers of America,
presenting a scene from "He Came Home to Die",
his drama depicting Captain Tod Carter, who fell within yards of
his home in the 1864 Battle of Franklin.
James Brooks, PhD, of Clarksville - Instructor of American
History at Troy State, speaking on "Nation-Building
or Anarchy? Reconstruction in
Tennessee."
The event will also allow for the showing of the new, brief
SCV recruiting film plus feature uniformed C.S.A. Army bandsmen
performing period music.
