The Dukes of Hazzard was a summer trial replacement show aired on CBS in 1979. With the pilot episode "One Arm Bandits" the show was such a
success that instantly many more episodes were made. The show lasted from 1979 to 1985. The first 5 episodes were filmed in Covington Georgia and soon moved to Burbank California. The main star of the show, the General Lee, was a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. It had the huge rebel flag on the roof as well as the GENERAL LEE and the 01 on the door. The doors were welded shut making the duke boys get in through the windows. There was approx. 200 Dodge Chargers used during the whole series. At one time there was a shortage of General Lee's so Warner Brothers put flyers on the windshields of cars in shopping centers asking if people wanted to sell there Dodge Chargers. Daisy's Jeep Dixie was the replacement for her yellow 1971 road runner. Dixie was a 1980 CJ-7 jeep. Daisy was given Dixie by a very wealthy business man after Bo and Luke drove her road runner off of a cliff. The show was going great until about 1983 Bo and Luke went on strike. This is why Coy and Vance were used as Bo and Luke's replacements. Bo and Luke were on strike because they thought that they were not getting a fair share of the 180 million dollars made off of the memorabilia. Also they said that the scripts were to "childish". Soon after the ratings dropped from around 1st to about 30th Warner Brothers realized that viewers didn't watch the Dukes of Hazzard just for the General Lee, as neat as it was. So Warner Brothers had to strike a deal with Bo and Luke. They finally made a deal and Bo and Luke were back tearing up the ground with the General Lee were they belonged. The show eventually started to drop in the ratings so it was canceled. For many of us that was one of the worst days of our lives. :) Since then there has been 2 Dukes reunions which have been very popular and the reruns continue to show on TNN! click here
