April is Confederate History Month! 

 Dallas County, Alabama
Confederate History and Heritage Month Proclamation

R E S O L U T I O N

W h e r e a s, the residents of Dallas County, Alabama have a noble lineage in their Confederate ancestors who honorably and heroically took up arms to secure liberty for their country, the Confederate States of America, and in defense of and protection for their homes and families against an invading army; and

W h e r e a s, the men of Dallas County, Alabama served in the armies of the Confederate States of America with valor, many paying the ultimate sacrifice of laying down their lives for their country; and

W h e r e a s, we pay respect also to those noncombatants who sacrificed for the Confederacy, while endeavoring always to boost the moral of their fighting men; and

W h e r e a s, their collective and individual deeds of valor may dim, but should ever be remembered, celebrated and memorialized in each succeeding generation; and

W h e r e a s, those Confederate soldiers who survived combat, prison and disease came back to Dallas County, Alabama and served their community and county; and

W h e r e a s, we honor the confederate soldier of Dallas County, Alabama and we draw from the memory of his brave fearless deeds the courage, strength and wisdom to stand firm for those same principles of liberty which are the God-given rights of free man everywhere; and

W h e r e a s, the Battle of Selma was a significant engagement, which was fought in Dallas County. It was one of the last major skirmishes before the war ended; and

W h e r e a s, the town of Cahawba served as a prison during the War Between the States; and

W h e r e a s, the naval foundry was located in Selma and a large part of the munitions were produced here; and

W h e r e a s, we resolve that the memory of the Confederate soldier will never be dishonored nor tainted as long as we, their descendants live.

Now Therefore Be It Resolved, I, John W. Jones, Jr., Probate Judge and Chairman of Dallas County Commission, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby acknowledge their tremendous treasure held in Confederate History and Heritage do hereby proclaim April, henceforth as "Confederate History and Heritage Month."

In Witness Whereof, I John W. Jones, Jr. have hereunto set my hand and seal upon this 11th day of April, in the year of the Lord two thousand and five.
