The Following is the
Proclamation for "Confederate History Month" in Columbia, Tennessee".
Whereas, The War Between the States began
and ended in April; and
Whereas, the State of Tennessee seceded from the United States of America; and Whereas, Columbia, Murfreesboro, Thompson's Station, Franklin, Jackson and Parker's Crossroads are among the momentous battles of the War Between the States which occurred in Tennessee; and Whereas, the War and its consequences profoundly transformed Tennessee's society; and Whereas, the causes and effects of the war and the participation of the State of Tennessee are worthy of historical examination and study; and Whereas, all Tennesseans can benefit from further understanding of these times, NOW, Therefore, I Barbara McIntyre, Mayor of Columbia, Tennessee, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2005, as Confederate History Month In Columbia, and urge all citizens of the City of Columbia to avail themselves of the opportunities to increase their knowledge of this important era of Tennessee's history.
